The original Wishing Tree has made a baby Wishing Tree in front of Pathos-on-Harrison (near 24th). It’s up all the time for people to enjoy, but it’s officially a MAPP installation. (check out the magic of MAPP Saturday, Oct 2)
There can be as many more wishing tree babies as people request :). That’s the double meaning behind why I named it the “Mission Wishing Tree”. I’m on a wishing tree mission! And the magic is not confined to one single tree!
Right now, the original tree is down, pending various city permits... The permits and additional supplies can get quite pricy so if you could give a little love in the form of a PayPal donation, I’d appreciate it.
Also, sign up for the newsletter to keep up-to-date on when the Wishing Tree will come back in its full awesomeness, and for other news on creativity workshops and local art events.
below is the original text explaining the wishing tree, which gathered over 500 wishes the 3 weeks it was up!
I firmly trust in the power of intention as the first step to creating the change we want to see in our lives and in the world. I created this Wishing Tree to give others a space to express and interact with their intentions, and to be the change I wanted to see in my community: I always liked the idea of a Wishing Tree... so why not make one?!
The 2-part wish is very important, as I believe that what we experience externally in our lives is a reflection of what’s happening internally (often unconsciously). We are intimately connected to the world we are immersed in - and what we give to and wish for others tends to come back to us, anyway!
The Dalai Lama says: Because self and others can only be understood in terms of relationship, we see that self-interest and others' interest are closely interrelated and there is no self-interest completely unrelated to others' interests. Due to the fundamental interconnectedness which lies at the heart of reality, your interest is also my interest: in a deep sense, "my" interest and "your" interest basically converge.
